X:Men goes to Egypt

When X-Men Days of Future Past became a hit in 2014 , people had high expectations from it’s sequel X Men:Apocalypse. Plus the villain was as huge as Thanos is for Marvel Universe . And the fan favourite Quicksilver was back after his scene stealing slow mo in Days of Future Past. Yet did it deliver ? For me it did even though the majority of people did not like it as much as they liked Days of Future Past.  Perhaps it may have to do with the fact I did not like Days of Future Past as much as other people did. But on it’s own it was pretty good. This was another case of me liking XMen movies that others did not like as much. First being X3 The Last Stand.

This is set 10 years after the event of the previous movie and thus obviously Cold War plays an important role though not as much as it did in previous films. In fact there is less semblance of real life events in comparison to previous films. There is a good reason behind it as Apocalypse is supposed to be the one who can destroy almost whole universe and thus it does not make sense to make him involved in politics of Earth like other villains in the series. This is the movie that makes human realise the importance of mutants in saving the world and thus trusting them now to fight the Apocalypse.

More than the movie itself , the movie was subject of two controversies – one being Apocalypse refereing to himself as avatar of Hindu God Krishna and other being the billboard where Apocalypse is strangling the neck of Mystique. While the Krishna controversy got American Hindus angry, Apocalypse strangling Mystique got feminist angry. Fox apologised for both and removed both of them . I disagree with Fox’s reaction as both were non-controversy. Especially the Apocalypse one as Apocalypse is villain so it is natural he will do evil acts even in posters. Yet it was taken as violence against females.

Even though I liked the movie and especially new character of Olivia Wilde, I did not like One-Note character of Apocalypse
